The most beautiful wallpaper is the one that suits the room – visually and technically. In the bedroom the wall should above all radiate calm, in the hallway it has to withstand knocks, in the kitchen regular wiping. This guide shows room by room what matters and which wallpaper types and collections have proven themselves.
Living room
In the living room, effect is what counts. A popular choice is a feature wall behind the sofa or TV with a striking texture or pattern, while the other walls stay calm.
- Textures: Architexture with fabric, stone and concrete effects
- Warm and natural: Savana or Marrakech
- Luxurious: the designer licence collections
In rooms with a lot of sun, look for good lightfastness – the sun symbol on the label.
Bedroom
Here calm is what matters: muted tones, soft textures, floral or textile looks. The wall behind the headboard is the classic place for a stronger pattern.
- Satin Flowers – floral designs in soft tones
- Natural – fabric-like, woven surfaces
- Murella 100 – fine textures, damask and stripe effects
Kitchen
Grease splashes and steam occur in the kitchen. Choose a wallpaper that is at least washable, ideally scrubbable, for example with a vinyl surface such as Casa Chic. Directly behind the cooker and sink, a washable splashback (tiles, glass) makes more sense than wallpaper.
Bathroom
In the bathroom: wallpaper only outside the direct splash zone of shower and bath. Choose robust, easy-to-wipe surfaces (vinyl) or glass fabric with a paint suitable for damp rooms. Good ventilation is also decisive – permanent moisture damages any wall surface.
Hallway and stairwell
Hallways are used the most: bags, pushchairs, furniture being moved. This is where glass fabric shows its strengths – impact-resistant, crack-bridging and easy to repaint when changing colour. In apartment buildings and public buildings, a non-combustible version (A2) may be required.
Children's and teenagers' rooms
It should be robust and wipeable – at least washable. Graphic, modern patterns such as Mini Trend suit teenagers' rooms. Tip: a feature wall is easier to redesign as the children grow up than a whole room.
Home office and office
Calm, textile textures look professional and do not distract on video calls. For commercial spaces there are the contract lines HOME and Project II; acoustically effective wallcoverings such as SYSTEXX AcousTherm help against reverberation.
