The right adhesive for non-combustible wall and ceiling systems
SYSTEXX Active FireProtect Glue is the specially developed system adhesive based on alkali silicate (potassium silicate) for bonding SYSTEXX Active FireProtect glass fibre wallcoverings to walls and ceilings. It is the only adhesive that enables the complete system to achieve fire class A2-s1, d0 in accordance with DIN EN 13501-1 – a critical requirement for escape routes, public buildings, schools, hospitals, and all areas with elevated fire protection demands.
The adhesive is ready to use straight from the bucket, dries transparent, and can be cleaned off with water without residue. Its high initial tack and long open time make it suitable for heavy wallcoverings and ceiling applications.
⚠️ Important: The fire class A2-s1, d0 is only achieved as a complete system: non-combustible substrate + FireProtect Glue + SYSTEXX Active FireProtect wallcovering + non-combustible coating. Standard dispersion adhesive is not sufficient.

💡 Rule of thumb: 1 bucket (15 kg) reliably covers around 75 m² of wall surface – regardless of whether you are using 15.5 m², 25 m² or 50 m² rolls. For highly absorbent substrates and ceiling applications, allow a little extra.
⚠️ Ceiling applications: Consumption may be slightly higher on ceilings due to the application method. Build in a safety margin.
Substrate preparation – critical for fire protection!
⚠️ Fundamental rule: To achieve fire class A2-s1, d0, the substrate must be non-combustible. Combustible substrates (timber, chipboard, etc.) do not become non-combustible simply by applying the FireProtect system.
The substrate must meet the following conditions:
✔ Dry – no moisture sources or rising damp
✔ Clean – free from dust, grease, oil or release agents
✔ Smooth & sound – level off irregularities exceeding 1 mm; fill cracks and holes
✔ Free from mould – treat any mould growth professionally before application
Pre-treat highly absorbent substrates with a suitable primer. Remove all old wallcoverings and unsound coatings completely. Refer to Vitrulan's separate technical data sheet "Substrate Preparation Overview" for detailed guidance.
Step-by-step: Applying FireProtect Glue
1. Prepare the adhesive
Stir slowly before use – do not beat or mix rapidly, as this can introduce air bubbles.
2. Apply the adhesive
Apply FireProtect Glue undiluted with a paint roller evenly to the wall, working one to two strip widths at a time (do not coat the entire wall at once). For highly absorbent substrates, dilute with no more than 5% water – exceeding this may impair the fire protection properties.
3. Embed the wallcovering immediately
Place the SYSTEXX Active FireProtect strip into the fresh adhesive straight away and press firmly from the centre outwards, ensuring no air bubbles remain.
4. Remove adhesive residue
Wipe off any adhesive that reaches the visible surface immediately using a damp sponge – dried adhesive is very difficult to remove.
5. Allow to dry fully
Drying time: 12 – 24 hours at 18 °C and 60% RH. Ventilate the room during drying. Only apply the topcoat once fully dry.
6. Apply the topcoat
Use only a non-combustible coating (classified as non-combustible per DIN EN 13501-1:2010) – this is required to achieve the A2-s1, d0 fire class for the complete system.
🥽 Safety note: Wear safety goggles throughout application. Carefully protect stone, glass and metal surfaces – dried adhesive on natural stone or tiles can be very difficult to remove.

Storage & Disposal:

Storage: Store dry, cool and frost-free. Reseal opened buckets tightly.
