What is formaldehyde – and why does it matter?
Formaldehyde is a colourless, sharp-smelling gas that is silently released into indoor air by many everyday materials: new furniture (especially those made from wood-based boards or plywood), carpets, varnishes, adhesives and many other building materials continuously emit formaldehyde over a long period of time. The problem: you can't always smell it, and it breaks down very slowly – especially in rooms with poor ventilation.
Even low concentrations can cause headaches, reduced concentration and nausea. In newly built or freshly renovated rooms, formaldehyde levels are often particularly high.
The solution: SYSTEXX Active Absorb
SYSTEXX Active Absorb is a glass fibre wallcovering with a special active finish that continuously draws formaldehyde out of the indoor air and permanently binds it. Scientific testing in a controlled test room per DIN ISO 16000-23 confirmed that the wallcovering reduced the formaldehyde concentration in the air by up to 65 % – even while formaldehyde was being continuously introduced into the room.
The wallcovering works like a permanent filter: it absorbs large quantities of formaldehyde throughout its entire service life and does not release it again. At the same time, it has all the proven performance properties of a premium SYSTEXX glass fibre wallcovering.
Thanks to Aqua Technology, the adhesive is already applied to the reverse side at the factory – just like a stamp. Simply activate with water and hang directly. Fast, clean, no mixing.

⚠️ Important: which paint to use?
Always use a high-quality emulsion (dispersion) paint on SYSTEXX Active Absorb. Two-component (2K) paint systems must not be used – they can permanently destroy the formaldehyde-absorbing function. Optionally, a formaldehyde-absorbing specialist paint can be used to further boost the overall effect.

Installation with Aqua Technology – step by step
SYSTEXX Active Absorb uses Aqua Technology: the adhesive is already on the reverse and only needs to be activated with clean water.
How it works:
Pull the fabric through the water-filled Aqua Quick device as instructed and fold in closed loops. The adhesive activates in approx. 1 minute (walls) or approx. 2–3 minutes (ceilings). Hang within max. 20 minutes.
⚠️ Do not leave the fabric in the water bath for more than 5 minutes – prolonged immersion compromises adhesive quantity and consistency.
Butt-joining strips:
Always hang strips butt-joined – never upside down or reversed. Use reverse-side markings as guide: distance between two markings must always be 1 m. Remove adhesive from the visible face immediately with a damp sponge.
Drying time: 12–24 hours at 18 °C / 60 % RH.
